ダンゴウオ/ Japanese Lumpsuckers 2021

今年もダンゴウオたくさん会えて写真撮れまあした。今年、長崎で見られるダンゴウオはサクラダンゴウオと呼ばれていると学びました。桜が咲く時期にサクラダンゴウオの産卵のときと沿います。

I was able to see and take pictures of a lot of Dango fish (Japanese Lumpsuckers) this year as well. This year I learned that the Dango fish found in Nagasaki are called Sakura Dango fish. Sakura means cherry blossom in Japanese. It fits them well because their breading season aligns with the Sakura blooming season in this area.

今年はほとんどのダンゴウオは生まれたばかり黄色と緑だったけどこの一匹は赤色でした。

この次の写真グループは生まれたばかり黄色まだ天使の輪がきれいについているサクラダンゴウオです。最初の写真はやっとあくびしているところを撮れました。ずっとあくびのショットを撮ろうとしてた（今まではボケてたか僕の指は遅かった）んだけど今年二回あくびを撮れました。

Most of the Dango fish I saw this year were the newly hatched yellow and green varieties, but I did get to see this one red one.

The next group of pictures are of the newly hatched yellow Sakura Dango fish with a nice solid angel's halo. the first picture is of one yawning. This was a tough picture to get. I had been trying to get a yawning pic with a few near misses (blurry or my finger too slow to take the picture), but this year I got two.

この次のグループは緑のもうちょっと成長しているサクラダンゴウオです。天使の輪がほとんどなくなっている。

The next group of pictures are of the still quite young and small, but green or greenish in color and having lost most of their halo. at this stage they blend in a lot better with the seaweed they hide on. 

この緑色サクラダンゴウオはピンク/紫っぽい海草に乗っていいモデルになってくれました。

This green one landed on some pink/ purpleish seaweed giving me a nice contrast with it's green color.

ダンゴウオシーゾンは今年もおわったけど来年の2月と3月にまた見る機会があります。そのときは是非長崎市スマイラーズダイビングショップに連絡して見に来てください❕だんごポイントはアドバンスレベルなところなのでダイビングスキルを準備して来てね。

This year's Dango fish season is basically over, but I highly recommend putting it in your schedule for February and March next year. When you do come definitely contact the Smilers Dive Shop in Nagasaki city for information. The Dango fish dive point can be finicky so I would recommend having advanced level diving skills.  English speakers are welcome! I can translate for you so you can have a great Dango fish dive.
